Becoming A U.S. Citizen

Becoming A U.S. Citizen

Citizenship/Naturalization – How do I become a citizen of the United States?

Do you think you're eligible for citizenship in the U.S. but you have delayed applying for one reason or another? If you can read, write, and speak English, now is a great time to apply!

Citizens of the U.S. enjoy less travel restrictions than lawful permanent residents, among other benefits. Please email me to discuss your ability to become a U.S. citizen!

  • For many Lawful Permanent Residents of the United States, citizenship/naturalization is an option after 5 years of Lawful Permanent Residence. Lawful Permanent Residents who obtained their residence through marriage to a U.S. citizen and are still married and living with their U.S. citizen spouse may apply for citizenship/naturalization after 3 years of Lawful Permanent Residence.

  • Applicants must be able to demonstrate that they can read, write, and speak English. There are some exceptions for long-time Lawful Permanent Residents who have attained an advanced age.

  • Many Lawful Permanent Residents apply for citizenship because they would prefer less travel restrictions and eligibility for certain benefits from the U.S. government that are only available to U.S. citizens.

  • If you would like to consider becoming a U.S. citizen, Elizabeth Cuenca, P.A. can confirm whether you are eligible and give you information regarding the testing requirements. You are welcome to reach out to Elizabeth Cuenca, P.A. to discuss becoming a U.S. citizen!
