Consular Processing – How do I complete consular processing for a family member living abroad?

  • U.S. citizens and Lawful Permanent Residents may apply for their family members through Consular Processing after an immigrant petition has been approved and the priority date has become current.

  • Consular Processing includes submission of information and documents to the National Visa Center followed by the scheduling of an interview at an embassy in the immigrant’s country of origin. The immigrant must then attend a medical appointment in advance of their interview at an embassy in their country of origin.

  • The last step is to attend the interview. If successful, the immigrant will be able to enter the U.S. as a Lawful Permanent Resident.

  • Consular processing is a complicated process involving many different types of documentation and communication with various agencies of Immigration in and outside of the United States. Elizabeth Cuenca, P.A. encourages you to seek the firm’s counsel to help you navigate!
